The City of Bell 5K & 1K Run is accepting early registrations that offer discounted fees.

Available through February 28, the registration costs $20 for adults (ages 18 and over) and $10 for youths (ages 17 and under). Bell students in grades K-12 can register for only $5, but they must do so in person at the Bell Community Center and present a valid school ID.

By registering early, participants can guarantee their preferred t-shirt size, subject to availability.

Regular registration will take place from March 1 to May 2, with fees of $30 for adults and $15 for youths. Bell students will still only pay $5.

Same-day registration will be available from 6 to 8 a.m. on race day, with a fee of $40 for all ages, though t-shirt availability is not guaranteed.

The run will take place May 4.

The Children's 1K race, for participants 12 years of age and under, will start at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K race at 8:30 a.m.

All runners will receive a medal, a timing chip, and a t-shirt while supplies last. The winners in the male and female divisions of the 5K will each receive a $300 prepaid debit card.

While Los Angeles has the CicLAvia, temporarily closing streets to cars and opening them up to bike, skate or stroll and enjoy their neighborhoods, Bell uses his annual race to promote a car-free zone where people can walk, jog, bike and explore their community. It also has a festival feeling with music, food vendors, exhibitors and a kid’s fun zone as streets remain open until 2 p.m.

The event's purpose is to promote "health and wellness within the underserved communities of Southeast Los Angeles, including the City of Bell," states the city website. It adds that the annual event has an "enduring" theme: "Running for a Healthier Tomorrow."

The Bell Community Center is located at Treder Park, 6250 Pine Ave. F
