College and vocational students from two Southeast LA cities can now apply for the California Water Service Group Scholarship Programs.
The programs provide $80,000 in awards to students within the service area of Cal Water, a subsidiary of the California Water Service Group.
Bell and Vernon are among the more than 100 municipalities in California located in Cal Water’s service area.
REQUIREMENTS
Scholarship applicants must be enrolled full-time at an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school, be at least 16 years of age and a high school senior or high school graduate, and have received GED certification or be a current post-secondary undergraduate student. They must not have already received a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and their parents or guardians must live within a Cal Water service area.

Those who cannot apply are the children of a current or former employee of Cal Water, California Water Service Group, any of its subsidiaries, or a member of its Board of Directors.
SOME RETURNING STUDENTS ALSO QUALIFY
Students returning to college can also apply to the program. “Non-traditional students who are returning to school or planning to pursue a post-secondary education for the first time are eligible and encouraged to apply,” states the company’s website.
Non-traditional students often include those who are financially independent, have dependents, such as children, elderly parents, or siblings, are single caregivers, work full-time or have delayed college enrollment.
ADMINISTRATOR OF SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS
The California Water Service Group Scholarship Programs are administered by Scholarship America, a non-profit organization helping students access college scholarships by managing and administering scholarship programs for individuals, corporations and foundations.
If you have any questions, email calwater@scholarshipamerica.org.
