Creativity Unleashed: Submit Your Art to 'Playful' Exhibit at Museum

If you do art as fun play, your work could join an upcoming collective exhibit with a bilingual title at the South Gate Museum & Art Gallery.

The regional art venue is accepting submissions for “Playgrounds ¿Jugamos?” to open in the spring.

In the call for entries, the museum encourages submissions from artists who take risks, experiment with new media or discover fresh ways of expression. “Just like a playground, art allows us to learn, explore, get messy and make mistakes,” says the museum’s website. “It's a space where we can let our imaginations run wild, push boundaries, and find joy in the process of creation.” It goes on to invite artists to “share artwork that reflects the joy and excitement of being creative, where rules and expectations are tossed aside for you to have art as play.”

Entries can be local or regional. “We welcome artists from South East Los Angeles communities and the larger LA County Region to submit in all mediums,” says the museum’s website.

Individual artists can submit one entry, which can include series submissions. Audiovisuals are also accepted. 

The deadline for art submissions is March 3, with a decision to be notified to all artists the following week.

“Playgrounds ¿Jugamos?” will open May 3 and run through June 28.

The South Gate Museum & Art Gallery is located at 8680 California Ave, in the Civic Center.
